Juniata College Mental Health Forms Update:
As of March of 2019, the Center for International Education will no longer request optional health forms pertaining to mental health. Students are encouraged to discuss their mental health needs with their counselor to make a plan for navigating resources abroad, with the assistance of the Center for International Education staff when necessary.
Cultural Insurance Services International Coverage: Participants can seek treatment with any facility abroad. The policy provides outpatient treatment up to $2,500. If the counseling is related to a pre-existing condition—I.e. the student has sought services previously—then coverage is limited to 1,000 dollars. Once the member has reached the limit, they are responsible for the remaining expenses. *The benefits are based on policy year. For example, the Juniata policy runs from December of 2019 to through November of 2019.
Options for counseling abroad:
- Check if your personal counselor will provide online/telephone sessions. (This does not include counselors associated with Juniata.) CISI will not provide coverage for counselors based in the USA.
- Work with the Center for International Education and on-site coordinator to identify counseling options at the host institution. Please note that cultural norms surrounding mental health and associated services vary greatly depending on site. Many programs may not offer counseling services and support comparable to Juniata.
- Utilize one of CISI’s recommended psychologists via Skype. The following counselors were recommended in 2018:
