EB 300/301 has a very strong cultural component in its design. The course not only examines the business world in China from a rigorous academic perspective, we will also show students the practical world by visiting various multinational enterprises including AGY, Coca Cola and GM. In addition to the corporate visits, we are also exposing students to the cultural sites such as the Great Wall, Lama Temple, Jinsha Ruins in Chengdu, Summer Palace and Forbidden City. Students not only learn China from the business perspective, they also get to learn China from seeing its history.

The class meetings that describe and explain the recent economic growth that took place in China in the past 30 years using economic analysis. Several lectures will also be used to cover basic Chinese language as well as business etiquette in China.  The classroom teaching is then combined with a two-week trip in China, visiting Beijing, Chengdu and Shanghai.

We will utilize both the primary and secondary sources to enhance students’ understanding. The course requires students to understand the Chinese economic growth using rigorous economic analysis (secondary source).Students will have the opportunity examining how the businesses operate in China by interviewing corporate employees, discussing issues with Juniata alumni and observing operations (primary source). In addition, students will have to record daily travel logs as well as putting together a 10-page reflection paper after the conclusion of the trip.
